In 2016, UOB collaborated with Regal Hotels to launch the UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL to showcase the artworks produced by local and Asian artistic talents on quarterly basis.

Exhibition of the quarter:  'Tie · Journey' - a community art exhibition

UOB Art Space uniquely @ REGAL, in collaboration with social enterprise, Les Beatitudes, is proud to present ‘Tie · Journey’, a community art exhibition by local Hong Kong artists working with craftswomen from Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin and Tin Shui Wai areas, showcasing the talent and creativity inherent in our city.

Supporting women who may need to work in a more flexible arrangement, the exhibition welcomed groups of mothers from the above-mentioned areas, providing learning and artist-led creative workshops to create works of art using donated neckties. Adopting locally relevant elements such as the Star Ferry, Peak Tram and pawn shop as inspiration, the group created a series of environmentally-friendly collages and products such as bags and leather goods using recycled material, committed to supporting a sustainable environment. The works reveal the artists and sewing mothers’ interpretation of the unique culture, history and heritage in Hong Kong, including many intangible anecdotes pertaining to our shared traditions such as tea ceremony, the evolution of the tram, and Chinese bamboo billboards among many others.

The exhibition aims to support the stay-at-home mothers in Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin and Tin Shui Wai, as well as acknowledge local artists who devote their effort and energy to enriching the liveliness of Hong Kong neighbourhoods.

About Les Beatitudes

Les Beatitudes is set up to provide job opportunities for women from underprivileged families who want to and need to work in a flexible arrangement and home environment. We collect men’s neckties, co-design products with local artists to feature the best of Hong Kong, and train women on crafting and sewing skill. Via a simple tie, we created a platform that connects those who want to help and need help. Thus, Les Beatitudes successfully tied up very diverse and unrelated groups to address social issues collectively.

Training and job opportunities are created for the women mainly in Sham Shui Po, Wong Tai Sin and Tin Shui Wai. We also organized very impactful empowerment activity to bring the sewing moms to places where their products are sold, like Asia Society Hong Kong Centre, HKTDC Design Gallery, Hong Kong Gold Coast Hotel, etc.
